End of Summer & Start of School

We celebrated the last day of summer vacation with a family trip to the zoo.
The day after the zoo, school started. This year Kae is in Kindergarten! He goes for half a day in the afternoons and so far he loves it. The first day was fun but exhausting:
A couple days after Kae started school it was Izee's turn. Izee is now a preschooler! He goes 2 mornings a week and he is so excited that he is big enough for school.

Firetrucks!

Now that I have little boys, I never miss a fire station, firetruck, ambulance or policeman. I always have someone to point them out to me. Kae still tells me that he wants to be a fireman when he grows up. For the last few summers we have taken a tour of a local fire station. This year Kae wanted to go to the Firefighter Museum instead. So we headed to the museum during their Firefighter Festival. It turns out the Firefighter Festival is awesome! They had bucket rides, firetruck rides, and let the kids shoot the fire hose. Plus the whole museum was open too.The firefighter's also did a car extraction demonstration. Kae loved watching them use their jaws of life.
A week after the Firefighter Festival in Denver was our city's Fire Muster. The Fire Muster starts with a firetruck parade. Then we head to the park for firefighter training and climbing all over the firetrucks.

Kae is 5!

Kae wanted a superhero party this year for his 5th birthday so we gathered all his super friends and played some super games.

First the superheroes made shields like Captain America's.

Then we played Villain Tag. Daddy was our villain (in the black shirt) and when he tagged a superhero they had to freeze until they were tagged by another superhero.
Next was Save The Baby. Each superhero had to climb up the stairs, through the tunnel, grab the baby, slide down the slide and hand the baby to the waiting mommy. We timed the superheroes and Lizard Boy was our fastest at saving the baby.
After all the games the superheroes need to recharge with some cake and power punch (aka: tang).
Once they were recharged it was on to the pinata. (It is hard to find a villain pinata.) Once Darth Vader was defeated the superheroes gathered all the candy.
Before all the superheroes headed back to their secret lairs super Kae opened his birthday presents.
Everyone had a super time!
Happy Birthday, Kae!

Family Camp

This summer we decided to go to our church's family camp instead of taking our own family camping trip. Instead of being about 20 minutes from home like last year, we were up in the mountains 3 hours from home (and 2 hours from cell phone service). Unfortunately about a month before the trip Andrew found out he had to go on a business trip that weekend. Since it was just me and the boys going we decided to stay in a cabin instead of a tent. We camped with about 80 other people from our church. It was so much fun!

The boys loved the cabin! They both got to sleep on a top bunk. They also loved being up in the mountains. Being little boys, they did a lot of playing in the dirt. And they got pretty dirty. Since they were camping they didn't want to take showers. (Last year's camping didn't have showers so now they assume being dirty is part of camping.) Since they wouldn't shower I wiped them each down instead. That is a lot of dirt!

We had such a good time that we are planning to go again next year with Daddy.

G.G. Came to Visit

In July my grandmother (the boys' great grandmother) came to visit. The boys call her G.G., which is short for great grandmother.

We took G.G. to the aquarium and Poppi and Daddy took some time off work so they could come too.
The boys and I also took G.G. to the Butterfly Pavilion.
We can't forget to take a picture of the 4 generations when we have them all together.
